As a result of the current situation and past flood events in many European cities, flood risk management has become a top priority for authorities and stakeholders. In terms of the implementation of the EU Floods Directive, broad bases of knowledge and analysis tools, as well as the development of improved strategies for flood risk management are now required. In this context, six project partners from four European countries (Austria, Germany, Italy and Spain) have worked within the 2nd ERA-Net CRUE funding initiative in the project SUFRI (2009-2011) aiming at improving flood risk management by focusing on advanced warning systems, vulnerability analysis and risk communication.
